WACANA ORIENTALISME DALAM CERPEN “TEH DAN PENGKHIANATAN” KARYA IKSAKA BANU (ORIENTALISM DISCOURSE IN SHORT STORIE “TEH DAN PENGKHIANATAN” BY IKSAKA BANU)

Abstract

The subject matter of this research is to examine the discourse of orientalism in short stories Teh dan Pengkhianatan by Iksaka Banu. This short story tells about identity and social trauma with several characters in the story having a strong cultural link, between the Dutch and the Javanese and the Chinese (East Asia). The short story tells of a rebellion by two Chinese groups against the government which led to war. Short story Teh dan Pengkhianatan represents the existence of the image of the East and the West which can be studied with Edward W. Said's theory of Orientalism. This study aims to describe the discourse of orientalism and the views of life of the characters in short stories which represent the Western view of the East. The results of this study indicate that the short story Teh dan Pengkhianatan has described discourses related to East and West, such as the resistance of deconstruction locality in the Chinese group, the resistance of attitude and body by Alisaba, and the resistance of orientalism by Captain Simon Vastgebondem.

Pokok pembahasan penelitian ini yaitu menelaah wacana orientalisme dalam cerpen Teh dan Pengkhianatan karya Iksaka Banu. Cerpen ini bercerita tentang identitas dan trauma sosial dengan beberapa tokoh dalam cerita mempunyai kaitan kuat secara kultural, antara Belanda dengan Jawa, dan Cina (Asia Timur). Dalam cerpen diceritakan adanya pemberontakan dua kelompok Cina kepada pemerintah yang menimbulkan peperangan. Cerpen Teh dan Pengkhianatan merepresentasikan adanya citra Timur dan Barat yang dapat dikaji dengan teori Orientalisme Edward W. Said. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan wacana orientalisme serta pandangan hidup tokoh-tokoh dalam cerpen yang merupakan representasi dari pandangan Barat terhadap Timur. Hasil penelitian ini me-nunjukan bahwa cerpen Teh dan Pengkhianatan telah menggambarkan wacana yang berhubungan dengan Timur dan Barat, seperti perlawanan lokalitas dekonstruksi pada kelompok Cina, perlawanan sikap dan tubuh oleh Alisaba, serta perlawanan orientalisme yang dilakukan oleh Kapten Simon Vastgebondem.
